PWP wants you to replace your old incandescent
light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs
(CFLs) and/or light emitting diode bulbs (LEDs).
THE GOAL:
All 53,000
Pasadena households switch to at least 10 energy-saving bulbs --
our city will eliminate over 10,000 tons
of carbon dioxide emissions every year!
THE PLEDGE: Make a
pledge to switch to 10energy-saving bulbs,
tell 10 friends to do the same, and help Pasadena
eliminate over 10,000 tons of carbon emissions
every year.

THE KIT: Between
August and September, every household in Pasadena
will receive a Power of 10 Challenge
energy-saving starter kit from PWP. Inside the
kit will be two free CFLs, a recycling pouch for
safe disposal of
CFLs, plus an order form for $75 worth
of free CFLs.

Always recycle your used CFLs
as electronic or hazardous waste
because they contain a trace amount of mercury. NEVER throw them in the trash bin or
blue recycling bin. Put them in a sealable "safe disposal
pouch" (available at
CFL drop-off centers) and bring them to an e-waste or hazardous waste collection
center.

If you accidentally break a CFL, use
precaution when cleaning it up: Read these Safe CFL Cleanup Tips.
The most common residential use of LEDs is for
holiday lighting. LED holiday lights come in a variety of colors and festive
styles, and can be easily found at most retail and hardware stores
that sell traditional holiday lights.
Energy-efficient - They use 90% less energy than
regular lights.
Long Life Span
- They last up to 50,000 hours.
Stay Lit
- One bad bulb won't shut off the whole string.
Safety -
Bulbs stay cool and pose less of a fire hazard.
Sturdy Bulbs
- Durable plastic bulbs are less likely to break than
traditional glass bulbs.
Cost-Effective
- In most cases, they pay for themselves in energy savings
in the first year.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE:
When you replace your incandescent
holiday lights with LED strands, be sure to recycle the old
strands as electronic waste!
