Roadway Maintenance is
responsible for
patching all the
streets and curbs and gutters throughout Pasadena. This activity also works closely
with the Engineering Division and supplements various Capital Improvement projects through
patching and crack sealing. This support allows more work to be accomplished
under contract since City crews are more familiar with the City and can respond
quickly to difficult areas.
Storm
Drain and Sewers is responsible for the maintenance of both systems including
the pumping stations and catch basins. This activity does not construct any
capital projects, although their knowledge of the system is instrumental
in the design and contract maintenance programmed by the City's Engineering
Division. Pasadena is in a joint effort with two other cities that utilize
televising of the system both to identify problem maintenance areas as well
as potential locations for capital improvements.
The Street Cleaning activity
works around the clock. Major street sweeping is accomplished during the early
morning hours. Day sweeping is accomplished on streets where parking is prohibited
during 8am and Noon, on one of the five working
days a week, in certain areas of the City. This activity also takes care of
heavy trash items left in the parkway or areas on the streets or alleys that
can't be cleaned by the sweepers. This activity is responsible for maintaining
and distributing barricades for social and sports events. Events include the
Tournament of Roses Parade, UCLA games, neighborhood block parties, celebrations
at City Hall, etc. Finally, this activity responds and assists with the cleanup
of hazardous material spills.
