TRAFFIC SPEED CALMED BY THE SUN
The latest gizmos to get their energy from the sun are traffic speed
signs, those electronic, dynamic boards that let you compare how fast
you’re driving to how fast you should be driving to be safe and within
the law.
The Pasadena Department of Transportation has placed four of these
traffic- calming awareness signs at key locations throughout the city:
eastbound on Lida Street, downhill from Art Center College of Design;
both directions on Orange Grove Boulevard near Viña Vieja Park; and Los
Robles Avenue near Blair High School.
“Electronic speed signs are some of the tools we use to manage traffic
speed,” said Rich Dilluvio, senior transportation planner. “Others
include speed humps, street narrowing, medians, traffic signs and police
enforcement.”
A fifth speed sign, powered with old-fashioned electricity from a power
line, is on Linda Vista Avenue near the elementary school.
