PLEASURES GENTLEMAN’S CLUB WILL BE
SHUT DOWN
Pleasures Gentleman’s Club at 3570 E. Foothill Blvd. in Pasadena will
close its bikini bar operations Jan. 25, 2008, in compliance with an
agreement approved by Superior Court Judge Jan Pluim.
The closure will conclude four years of litigation that began when
operators of Pleasures presented two “lust parties” in 2003. The city of
Pasadena obtained a court order in 2003 prohibiting further lust parties
and other violations of law. The city revoked the establishment’s
conditional use permit for alcohol sales, which was upheld by the trial
and appellate courts. In February 2007 the California Supreme Court
declined to hear the case.
Within the past several months, Pleasures has continued to sell alcohol
and offer topless dancing in violation of the court order and the
Pasadena Municipal Code. When the city of Pasadena was about to proceed
with a contempt of court hearing on Nov. 14, 2007, the operators of
Pleasures agreed to (1) immediately and permanently cease topless
dancing and (2) cease bikini dancing and alcohol sales by Jan. 25. They
will post a $10,000 bond to remain in operation until Jan. 25.
“I am pleased to bring this chapter to a final resolution,” said
Pasadena City Attorney Michele Bagneris. “We look forward to seeing the
property finally put to a lawful use.” |
