The San Rafael Branch Library opened on July 31, 1957, adding on a meeting room ten years later. The branch participates in Pasadena's School Library Cooperative    Project with San Rafael School.

San Rafael Branch Collection

The San Rafael Branch Library is a small branch with approximately 37,000 items in its collection and circulates approximately 60,000 books per year. The collection consists of adult and juvenile materials, featuring popular fiction and non-fiction, magazines, encyclopedias and a reference collection. Strengths of the collection are art, travel, historical homes, biographies and bestsellers. Children's Spanish language fiction and non-fiction books are also available.


Meeting Room

The meeting room will accommodate up to 33 people. This room is free to groups who do not charge an admission fee or restrict admission on the basis of membership.


Special Features

Local residents enjoy using the branch resources for recreational reading, student homework assistance and answering reference questions. Community meetings and election voting are held in the branch meeting room. San Rafael Branch has a large on-going book sale, where both hardbound and paperback books are sold.

The San Rafael Associates support programs and activities at the branch, through local participation and fundraising.

San Rafael Branch Library is pleased to offer free wireless Internet access to patrons with appropriately equipped wireless devices. A valid Pasadena Library Card and PIN are required to access the library's wireless Internet services. School Services
San Rafael Branch Library participates in the PUSD/Public Library Coop, providing library instruction to classes from San Rafael Elementary School. In the 2005-2006 fiscal year, San Rafael offered 442 programs for children with 8,189 in attendance. Of these, 261 were class visits with a total attendance of 4,837.
