Mid-century architecture aficionados will tingle with delight when they visit the current Lamanda Park Branch Library on 140 S. Altadena Drive.
The first Lamanda Park Branch opened in 1922, in a small room in Emerson School. The second was at the present site, but was a relocated section of the old library from Raymond & Walnut. The current building, designed by Pulliam, Zimmerman and Matthews, Architects and Planners, was completed on October 14, 1967 and is 6,200 square feet. Branch staff can accommodate English, Spanish, and American Sign Language speaking patrons.

The Branch prides itself on its juvenile collection--strongest in the areas of picture books and folktales. The adult collection includes mysteries and a good basic collection of popular fiction. There are special sections for reference materials, Braille books for children, large type books, career books, accessibility and inclusion books, and books on CD. The branch also has a small Spanish collection for children and adults. The AWE Early Literacy Station and Peek-A-Book station are both available for use in the Branch.
The Braille Institute Library Services has authorized the Lamanda Park Branch as a site to assist registered members of the Braille Library with check out of Braille tape recording machines and books on tape as well as the digital talking book players and the digital books.
The Branch recently added adult and juvenile DVDs for the enjoyment of its library patrons.
The meeting room with tables and chairs will accommodate up to 34 people. Use of this room is free to groups who do not charge an admission fee or restrict admission on the basis of membership.
Lamanda Park Branch has two long standing special programs for adults:
Lamanda Park Branch offers teacher class cards to teachers who live or work in Pasadena. Hamilton Elementary and Willard Elementary Schools are the nearest Pasadena Unified Schools to the Branch.
