Santa Monica is accepting
applications for studio space for visual artists. Apply by
October 30.
As you might know, the City of Santa Monica
currently maintains approximately artist day-studio space at
the Santa Monica Airport. These studios can only be used by
individual artists engaged in the production of any of the
following art media: painting, drawing, sculpture, small
scale glass works, ceramics, textiles, woodworking,
photography, video art, printmaking, and other visual arts
and handcrafts. The spaces must serve as studios, workshops,
and other uses primarily dedicated to the production of
original works of visual art.
Applications are now available to be placed on the waiting
list for these spaces. On occasion, they become available
and the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division and the Santa
Monica Airport maintain a waiting list of qualified artists.
Eligibility of applicants is determined by the City of Santa
Monica staff based on the list of criteria described on the
website below. Applicants are then placed on a list for
review by the City of Santa Monica’s Airport Manager for
final screening, including credit check and references. The
list is used as spaces become available. New artists will be
added to the list as applications are received by the City
on a first-come, first served basis beginning on October 30,
2008.
Please note – preference is given to artists currently
living and/or working in Santa Monica. Additionally, if an
artist who lives and/or works in Santa Monica has recently
lost their studio space in Santa Monica due to rising rents,
lease termination, development or another reason, that
artist will be given priority. Artists must also meet income
requirements as described on the website. |
