Temporary Parking Permit Overnight & Daytime FAQ
WHAT IS A TEMPORARY PARKING PERMIT?
If you do not require an annual parking permit for the entire year, you may apply for a TEMPORARY PARKING PERMIT. These permits are valid for a 30-day period, where you may have a temporary need to park on-street.
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR A TEMPORARY ON-STREET PARKING PERMIT?
Basic Qualifications:
You must have more vehicles than the available off-street parking at your residence
All vehicles MUST be currently registered
You must qualify for an overnight temporary permit to receive a daytime temporary permit
HOW MANY PERMITS CAN I APPLY FOR?
If qualified, each residence can receive up to a maximum of 2 permits per residence.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR A PERMIT?
An application form must be completed and submitted to the Business Services Section located t 100 N. Garfield Ave. N106 Pasadena, CA 91109. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed on weekends and holidays).
APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON.
Applications for parking permits will not be accepted through the mail, by phone, via fax machine or the Internet.
A separate application form MUST be submitted for each vehicle requiring a permit.
DO I NEED TO BRING IN MY VEHICLE REGISTRATION(S)?
If this is your first permit at this location and there has not been a permit issued to the location within the last six months, you will need to provide the CURRENT registration form(s) for the vehicle(s) requiring a temporary permit. If you are renewing a temporary parking permit, you will need to provide a copy of the CURRENT vehicle registration form(s) for ALL VEHICLES parked at the residence where you are parking.
WHAT IF I HAVE A COMPANY CAR?
If you have a car registered to a company that you take home at night, in addition to the CURRENT vehicle registration, you will need to provide a letter from your supervisor on your company’s letterhead indicating that that specific car has been issued to you and that you are authorized to take the vehicle home at night and park it at your residence. The letter must include the address of your residence.
Commercial vehicles under the Pasadena Municipal Code shall not be parked on the street overnight.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU RECEIVE MY APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION(S)?
If this is your first request for a temporary permit, your permit MAY be issued without an investigation. If this is a renewal of a monthly permit, your completed application and the photocopy (ies) of your vehicle registration(s) are forwarded to the Department of Transportation (DOT) for processing. DOT will then investigate the following criteria:
Verification of the information listed on the application
Verification that adequate off-street parking, whether free or paid, is not available within 600 feet of your residence.
WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT CITATIONS WHILE MY APPLICATION IS BEING PROCESSED?
A three-week temporary parking permit will be issued for your vehicle during the investigation process. If you have not heard from the Business Services Section regarding the status of your permit prior to the expiration date of your temporary permit, you will need to come in to the Business Services Section with your expiring permit to extend your temporary for an additional period of time. Extensions from the Business Services Section will only be granted one time. If you have not received confirmation on the status of your permit prior to the expiration date of your extended permit, please contact the Business Services Section at (626) 744-6444 to check the status.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PERMIT IS APPROVED?
If your parking permit application is approved, you will be notified by mail. YOU MUST PICK UP THE PERMIT IN PERSON at the Pasadena Business Services Section. Payment is due at the time you receive your permit. ALL outstanding parking violations (for each vehicle parked at your address) MUST be paid prior to the issuance of your permit. Approved applications are only valid for 30 days from the approval date. Permits not picked up during that time will be voided.
NOTE: Receipt of notification does not exempt you from citation if your temporary permit has expired.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY APPLICATION IS DENIED?
If your parking permit application is denied, the Department of Transportation will notify you by mail. Should you have any questions regarding the denial, please call (626) 744-7665.
WHAT IS THE FEE FOR THE PERMIT?
The fee for a temporary overnight parking or daytime parking permit is $21.00 per permit, per vehicle, per month. You may pay with cash, check, VISA, Master Card, American Express, Discover or most ATM cards.
WHAT IF I NEED TO PARK OVERNIGHT ON THE STREET WHILE l AM PREPARING MY PAPERWORK?
If you need to park your vehicle on the street prior to submitting your permit application, you may purchase a temporary permit from one of the City of Pasadena’s Temporary Overnight Parking Exemption Kiosks (TOPEK) or online. The cost is $3.00 per permit, per vehicle, per night. Temporary daytime exemptions are not available at the kiosks. Please call (626) 744-6440 for daytime temporary exemptions.
