MAYOR’S HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING 5-7 P.M., FRIDAY, DEC. 2, 2016 AT CITY HALL

PASADENA, Calif.—Deck the Halls with Holiday Cheer and join Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek for the City’s traditional start of the Holiday Season as the Mayor lights the City’s Official Holiday Tree at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at the front steps of City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.

Our free, family festive celebration features local singers and dancers, art projects for kids and a special appearance by Santa Claus.  It all happens from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 2.  The Mayor lights the tree at 6 p.m. so allow plenty of time for parking to be there for the Tree Lighting.

City Officials have it on very good authority that Santa Claus—yes, we know him—will make a special appearance with a little help from his friends at the Pasadena Fire Department once the tree is lit.  Bring your own cameras to snap a special holiday picture of Santa with your children in “Santa’s Village.”  City officials also are predicting “snow flurries” will occur in front of City Hall!

This year more than ever, please find it in your hearts to help fill a paramedic ambulance—and make our firefighters smile—by bringing an unwrapped toy for less fortunate boys or girls as part of KABC’s 24th annual Spark of Love Toy Drive. http://abc7.com/family/spark-of-love-toy-drive-2016/1614242/.  Also new this year is the City’s VIP “Spark of Love” Holiday Lounge.  Availability is limited.  See www.cityofpasadena.net/TreeLighting for details.

Great live entertainment throughout the night includes, by popular demand, a triumphant return performance from the thundering Wilson Middle School Drum Corps!  Those adorable kids from the Robinson Park Tiny Tots Troupe, the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena and from Pasadena’s Afterschool Adventures Program will be there too.

A special “Santa Serenade” will be performed by Monet Bagneris while the Olde Fashioned Carolers will stroll through the crowd encouraging sing-alongs of all your favorite holiday favorites.  New this year will be the Pasadena High School’s “Orchesis” dancers.  And, of course, the evening just wouldn’t be complete without our favorite emcee, retired police Lt. Rodney “Rodney D” Wallace.

Free art projects by Pasadena’s Armory Center for the Arts will feature special “Holiday Crafts from the Around World” for young people to do.  The crafts will highlight the holiday celebrations of cultures from around the globe.  A special “Santa’s Village” display will also be available for viewing enjoyment and photos.  Light refreshments will be served.

This great family event is organized by the City’s Human Services and Recreation Department, with help from the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Public Works, Pasadena Water & Power, the Fire Department, Police Department and the City Manager’s Office.

Pasadena Media will be on hand to record the event for later broadcast on KPAS, the City’s government access TV station, during the holiday season to help keep us in a festive mood!  KPAS is available on Channel 3 for Charter subscribers, Channel 99 for AT&T U-Verse and is available online at the City’s website, www.cityofpasadena.net/Media and www.pasadenamedia.org.
