The Pasadena Public Health Department and California Assemblyman Anthony Portantino will sponsor HIV testing Sunday, June 26, from noon to 4 p.m. in Lot B at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of National HIV Testing Day.
The event is open to residents throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Portantino will get tested at 1 p.m.
National HIV Testing Day is an opportunity for people nationwide to learn their HIV status and gain knowledge to take control of their health and their lives.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in five people living with HIV in the U.S. are unaware of their HIV status and therefore potentially infecting others and going untreated. HIV screening is important for identifying people who are infected, get them into treatment, change their behaviors and prevent further transmission of HIV.
The pain-free test will be administered by Pasadena Public Health Department workers using quick-result swabs that provide results within 20 minutes. The testing is confidential. Counseling will be provided by the department.
The event will also include HIV/AIDS educational materials and resource tables, and food provided by the Pasadena Fire Fighters Association. For more information call the Pasadena Public Health Department at (626) 744-6128 or Assemblyman Portantino’s office at (626) 577-9944.
