Martha Camacho Named One of American Library Association's Emerging Leaders for 2010

Pasadena Public Library is pleased to announce that Martha Camacho, who works at Pasadena Central Library, has been named one of the American Library Association’s emerging leaders for 2010.

She will receive a scholarship to attend the midwinter ALA meeting in San Diego and the summer conference in New Orleans.

Camacho manages the Research Services Section, the Pasadena local history collection and Municipal Information Services (Pasadena Public Library’s personalized research service to city staff) and supervises five reference librarians.

Her role requires her to network with colleagues from the city of Pasadena and other organizations, serve as an advocate for the preservation and awareness of the library’s local history collection, and develop specialized reference services and content for existing and potential users in collaboration with the reference team.

The ALA Emerging Leaders Program enables more than 100 new librarians and library staff from across the country to participate in project planning workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers.

“We are very proud of Martha and her accomplishments. She is an outstanding librarian whose insight and initiative have contributed significantly to the Pasadena Public Library” said Jan Sanders, library director.

Camacho is a graduate of Occidental College and the San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science. She was named a Eureka! Fellow in 2009 by the California State Library and participated in the Eureka! Leadership Program, a week-long intensified leadership training program
designed to bring new energy and ideas into leadership circles. Prior to working at the Pasadena Public Library, she served as a librarian at Burroughs High School in Burbank.
