The Pasadena Recreation and Parks Commission will consider supporting a proposal for a permanent memorial to boxer Canto Robledo during their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Robledo, a onetime boxer and longtime boxing trainer and promoter, died in 1999 at age 86. After losing his sight in 1934 at the height of his boxing career, he trained boxers at his Crown City Boxing Stables in Pasadena, which served as recreation center where young boys could gather and be mentored. He worked closely with the Pasadena Police Department, local schools and community-based organizations to provide positive experiences for the youths.
Tuesday the commission will discuss a proposal from the Pasadena Mexican American History Association for a 37” x 25” wall relief with a 10” x 16” plaque that would be mounted at Villa-Parke Community Center.
The public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Villa-Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St. For more information call (626) 744-4321.
